On July 23, 1848 Radetzky's offensive hits the Sardinian Army on the hills around Custoza. In the first fighting day, the Sardinian Army is able to repel the Austrian attack. In the afternoon, the Duke of  Savoy, Vittorio Emanuele, counterattacks with the Guards Brigade, and repels the Austrian I Corps. On the following day, the arrival of two additional Corps, shifts the balance in favour of the Austrians, springing up the short movement campaign that will end with the battle of Miland and with the armistice. On the first day of the battle of Custoza, the episode described in the book  “Cuore” (and recreated in this game) took place.
